digging the district

Oh, heyyyyyy you guys! Remember me?

In case you forgot…

I know I’ve been quiet lately, but I’ve just been adjusting to life in Northern Virginia/DC. And you know what? I think I like it… ok, maybe a lot.

I’ve finally gotten to the point where I have a camera that works, a reliable internet connection, and a place to lay my head at night. In fact, this is the view from my apartment:

I know you can’t see it right now, but I live right across from this guy… er, guys:

Every night on my way home, I see the Iwo Jima memorial, with the Washington monument and the Capitol in the background – it’s pretty incredible.

Here’s a little better view:

I feel that in my almost two months here, I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge when it comes to public transportation, how to dress for cold(ish) weather, and what it means to truly love your job.

I foresee plenty of posts on the horizon regarding adjusting to life in the city, making new friends, seeing new things… and I’m sure there will be plenty of this guy:

And I’ll probably have to write about what it means to this fella:

As of right now, I haven’t seen Jonathan in seven weeks, and I miss him more than anything in the world. We’re not scheduled for another visit until April, ‘round the time of our four-year (holy crap, four years) anniversary. It’s been super tough being so far away, but I know that I made the right decision when it comes to my career. I just hope he can come the hell on and join me up here.

To those of you who have stuck with me, thanks! To anyone who is new, welcome! Let’s enjoy this crazy journey together, shall we?
